About

I am a urban landscape artist primarily depicting the streets of Brooklyn, NY as well as my hometown Detroit, MI. My landscapes are distinguished by my idea of what "perspective” should look like that often is far from the traditional approach. This unusual often wonky view gives a fresh outlook on common place city life. Color and pattern work together combined with odd angles to create landscapes that juxtapose realistic and abstract elements. Strong linear elements and patterns creating movement give my landscapes a rich visual workout for the viewer. I revisits favorite haunts to tell visual stories of the neighborhoods of Sunset Park”s barbed wire lots and industrial buildings, DUMBO’s streets with the Manhattan Bridge ever-present and the landmarks and people of Coney Island. Given the opportunity I present scenes filled with a wry sense of humor and visual commentary on Americana. Often text helps to tell my visual narratives. Street or building signs are employed to enrich these landscapes and tell the story of the passage of time and transitions that present themselves in city life as well as the comedy of human quirkiness. I work in a variety of mediums including watercolor, pencil, acrylic, oil and pastel. My work ranges in scale from small watercolors to large multi paneled collages that form large works. I find each different medium enhances my feeling of how I want to portray a visual moment of city life. I am expanding my skills this year learning techniques in printmaking workshops and am excited to embark upon new ways to express myself visually.
