About

Born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, Beatrix J. Piesh knows the meaning of overcoming challenges. In 1983 after receiving her Masters Degree in Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, Piesh left her birth country and a burgeoning art career to arrive in the United States as a political refugee in 1986. This experience of separation informs her work to this day. Piesh has shown her work nationally and internationally in numerous venues. Upon her arrival in New York City she had a solo show at the Lawrence Gallery, followed a year later with a show at the Corner Gallery in the World Trade Center. She was invited to exhibit her artwork in the Trenton City Museum in New Jersey, the Ellis Island Museum, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Life of the city at the Museum of Modern Art, and The Dahesh Museum in New York City. Among her international group shows are Sculpture and Object XX International Exhibition in Bratislava, Slovakia, Liptov Museum Ruzomberok in Slovakia, the Gendaiko Museum in Miyazaki, Japan, and the Hellenic Institute in Athens Greece. Her solo shows include the Alena Adlung Gallery in Soho, the Bohemian National Hall in Manhattan and Micro-Solo at the Slovak Consulate General in New York City. She was instrumental in organizing both the International traveling Exhibition Your Documents Please to Japan, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, and the International exhibition Brooklyn2Bratislava, as part of the twentieth anniversary of Socha Object XX. 2015 in Bratislava, Slovakia. She was among the nine American Artists exhibiting in Palffy Palace in Bratislava. Her work is in the permanent collection of The Ellis Island Museum, the United Nations Mission of Slovak Republic and The City Museum of Bratislava as well in many private collections. Beatrix currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
