About

Jenna Weiss makes paintings based on two-dimensional wall collages sourced from a combination of previous work and found materials, with a nod to the trompe l’oeil and still life traditions. Resulting in representational paintings of non-representational imagery, the final pieces accumulate visual information in a way that is not always predictable from the onset despite largely being worked observation. Found grids of color and industrial materials, from paint samples and fabric store shelves, to memory card games serve as the indirect source material and provide a key to the color in corresponding works. She holds an MFA in Painting from Tyler School of Art, Temple University, 2010 and BA, Brandeis University, 2007. Since 2012 she has served as the Manager of Public Programs at the Jewish Museum, and has taught Painting and Drawing courses as an Adjunct Lecturer at Caldwell College, NJ and Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, PA. Her work has been shown at Loft 594 in Bushwick and at Fjord Gallery, Space 1026 and Grizzly Grizzly in Philadelphia.
